Michi

Michi Regier speaks and plays - violin, yes, fiddle, yes, but not in the usual way. You may hear poems interrupting Bartok or folk tales in an Ukrainian, Mexican or Irish travelogue. At 10 years old, Michi skipped a violin lesson and started playing for stepdancers. Celtic practices of learning by ear and improvisation launched her into a lifelong study of folk traditions. At a festival, she fell in love with Ukrainian culture and then spent the summer of 2003 at the Lysenko Conservatory. She has performed stories & tunes from Ukraine as "Tales from the Fiddle Tree," in her home state of Arizona and beyond. Over five years Michi taught violin in Imuris, Sonora, Mexico, and learned music from Tierra Caliente. Since moving to Madison, she has played music for kirtan and studied Indian classical and jazz traditions. Michi now hopes to bring many traditions together and to live as a world citizen and global collaborator. She invites you to a musical conversation, with bells on.
